Lt. Col. Engen wears the Master Parachutist badge and also the Army Ranger Tab. During his active duty, he served in several overseas assignments including the Republic of Vietnam, Korea, Italy, and the Netherlands, in addition to military science appointments at Northern Illinois University and the University of Mississippi. He also served 10 years as a Junior ROTC instructor at Lakeside High School. Lt. Col. Engen began his Army career in the Field Artillery through the ROTC program at North Georgia College in 1965. A highlight of the Veterans Day ceremony will be the introduction of Mr. Ross Snelling, a World War II veteran who commanded a Field Artillery Battery at Normandy. Mr. Snelling was awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star medals for his distinguished service and valor on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which is being hosted by Augusta State University's Department of Military Science. For more information about the event, call 737-1643.
