A Day for ASU exceeds goal

The annual A Day for Augusta State University campaign to raise friends and funds for the university exceeded its goal by more than $40,000 as the campaign drew to a close on Oct. 7, with a total of $440,391. The two-part campaign, which began on Sept. 22, raised money for scholarships, faculty development, and academic support programs that could not be funded by state dollars.

“This is the 11th year for the A Day for ASU campaign, and I’m thrilled that the community and campus responded so generously,” said Helen Hendee, executive director for development and alumni relations.

The community drive, led by Ernie Sizemore, a member of the ASU Foundation, raised $307,141, exceeding its $300,000 goal. Led by Jim Garvey, professor of English, the campus drive also surpassed its goal. Faculty and staff contributed $133,250 and pushed their 11-year total over the million dollar mark.

The campaign total was announced at the alumni barbecue, culminating the A Day activities.
