Faculty, staff, and students benefit from JagCard

JagCardWith all the benefits students get from using ASU’s new JagCard, faculty and staff can also join in on the perks. Just ask Leza Witherington, senior administrative secretary, in the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communications. She had $20 added to her JagCard during a promotion for faculty and staff.

“I was excited to learn that I had won the $20, especially because I never win anything,” says Ms. Witherington. “I love my JagCard, and I use it everyday in the snack machines or bookstore. I think it’s a great program.”

By depositing cash through payroll deduction or using the terminals located on campus, you avoid having to carry around money to make purchases at the vending machines, says Ms. Witherington. “This makes it easier for you to get your afternoon chocolate fix,” she says, jokingly.

There are plans for another promotion to increase faculty and staff usage of the JagCard, says Pam Lightsey, JagCard manager. “Faculty and staff who add value to their cards will receive a holiday ornament,” she says. This promotion will run through the month of November.

At the first home basketball game on Nov. 22, one lucky student with a valid ASU JagCard ID will receive a $500 JagCard deposit. This promotion is being sponsored by the athletics department.

Ms. Lightsey envisions a card scanner for use in the Maxwell Theatre. With this, faculty would be able to receive a report of students who attended required programs in the Maxwell Theatre. “Students would scan their card to get into the event, and a report could be pulled that would list the students who were present,” Ms. Lightsey says. This would assure faculty that students who were required to attend a specific performance or event were actually in the audience.

In the future, JagCard users will be able to deposit cash on the card via a website, says Ms. Lightsey. Users may also be able to make purchases at locations other than ASU’s campus and University Village, such as at local stores and restaurants.
