A Day for ASU exceeds goal

The annual A Day for Augusta State University campaign to raise friends and funds for the university exceeded its goal by more than $55,000 as the campaign drew to a close on Oct. 6, with a total of $472,000. The two-part campaign, which began on Sept. 21, raised money for scholarships, faculty development, and academic support programs that could not be funded by state dollars.

The community drive, led by Ernie Sizemore, a member of the ASU Foundation, raised $336,707, exceeding its $295,000 goal. The campus drive, led by Peggy Ruth Geren, associate professor of education in the Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education, also surpassed its goal. Faculty and staff contributed $135,293.

Six Augusta State students volunteered their time for six weeks and made phone calls to more than 10,000 alumni in a Phonathon, which raised $34,500 toward the total campaign amount.

“We are grateful to all of the ASU alumni and community friends who support the university with an annual gift to the A Day for ASU campaign,” says Michele Ellington, director of annual giving in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. “These financial gifts enrich the education of more than 6,500 students, the work of our faculty, and the future of the Augusta community.”

The campaign total was announced at the ASU Alumni Association’s annual barbecue that culminated the A Day activities.
