ASU announces YouTube winners

	YouTube Contest

Augusta State University’s first YouTube contest ended on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when a panel of judges and audience voting selected the top three winners. Online YouTube voting had narrowed the 43 entries down to 10, which were then voted on at a noontime program in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom. The judges panel included Steve Clements, Cree Walker Professor of Communication; Barbara Coleman, associate dean of the Hull College; Eddie Howard, director of student activities; and Randle Berlin, ITS and local DJ.

Dr. Joyce Jones, vice president for student affairs, emceed the program, and the winners were announced by President William A. Bloodworth, Jr.  “I am impressed with how creative our students are,” says Dr. Bloodworth, adding, “I am pleased with the amount of participation and the enthusiasm that the contest created on campus.”

In originating the contest, the offices of public relations and student activities were planning to use the top three videos in an advertising campaign. However, the director of public relations, Kathy Schofe, says there are “just too many good ones” to limit the campaign to only three. “We will be using others, and we plan to use all of them online in some way. I think we were all surprised at the quality of the submissions and really pleased at the imaginative, positive ways that the students found to create their videos.”

In fact, Ms. Schofe eliminated herself from the judging because there were so many “favorites” among the public relations staff. The contest was sponsored by the Offices of Public Relations and Student Activities.

The top three videos were awarded cash prizes in the amounts of $500, $250, and $100. The winners are listed below, including links to their videos.
