Jaguar baseball coach to serve as head of national committee

Skip Fite

Augusta State head baseball coach Skip Fite has been appointed to serve as chairman of the NCAA Division II baseball committee, according to a recent announcement from the NCAA's headquarters in Indianapolis.

Fite has served the NCAA in a number of capacities in recent years, including the last six as a member of the regional advisory committee. For the last three seasons, he has chaired the regional advisory committee for the South Atlantic Region. Among Fite's responsibilities will be to oversee the selection of teams, umpires and playing sites for the Division II baseball championships. He will also serve as chair of the regional tournament and chair of the games committee at the NCAA Division II championships.

"It's another opportunity to help promote baseball and work with some great people," said Fite. "It's an honor and a great experience, and it's also a lot of hard work, but it's well worth the time and effort."

In addition to serving as an NCAA staff member at the Division II College World Series in Montgomery, Ala., Fite has also spent the past three seasons serving as the tournament director for the NCAA's South Atlantic Regional tournament, which sends a total of four teams from the Peach Belt, South Atlantic and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences.

Next season will mark Fite's 20th at the helm of the Jaguar baseball program. The Jags are coming off back-to-back 30-win seasons, including a 30-21 mark last season, and were ranked as high as 25th in the nation.
