Augusta State University has opened a branch of its Born to Read Literacy Center in McDuffie County. Made possible by a 21st Century Federal Grant to Norris Elementary School, secured through the collaborative efforts of ASU Cree Walker Professor of Education Dr. Paulette Harris, McDuffie County Schools, and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers of McDuffie County, the center held its grand opening on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The center will operate out of Norris Elementary School, and will offer free adult literacy tutoring. While the program is still in the early stages and offers assistance two days a week, there are plans to extend the program as the need arises.
