A Day campaign kicks off in the community

The community campaign for the A Day for Augusta State University annual fund drive officially kicked-off on Thursday, September 23, at the President’s Club luncheon at the Augusta Country Club.

The goal of this year’s drive is to raise $390,000. David S. “Deke” Copenhaver, ASU alumnus and secretary/treasurer of the ASU Foundation, is leading the community campaign for the second year.

At the luncheon, campus chair Dr. James Garvey, professor of English, announced the end of the campus campaign, which raised more than $120,000.

According to Ms. Ginger Chew, annual fund director, campus giving rose to 80 percent this year with 29 departments giving 100 percent.

Last year the A Day campaign raised $412,000.

ASU's quadrangle came alive with colorful decorations at last year's A Day barbecue and celebration.

Wednesday, October 6: Free Community Health Fair. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Christenberry Fieldhouse. Free blood pressure checks and screenings for vision, hearing, and cholesterol; body fat analysis; massage therapy, and more.

Thursday, October 7: Artist’s Opening Reception for Gillian Pederson-Krag. 5:30 p.m., Fine Arts Gallery.

Phi Kappa Phi Symposium: Traditions and Transitions: Faculty Remember Their Student Experiences. 9 a.m., 170 University Hall.

Historical Marker Dedication. 11 a.m., outside University Hall.

Psychology Lecture Series. Narcissism and Relationships, Dr. Keith Campbell, University of Georgia. Noon, W1002 Science Building.

Alumni Barbecue and A Day Celebration. 5:30 p.m., Campus Quadrangle.

Debate Watch. 8 p.m., N126 Allgood Hall.

Saturday, October 9: Campus Visitation. 1-3 p.m., University Hall.

Thursday, October 14: Fine Arts Gala Concert. 7:30 p.m., Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre.
