Debate Watch offers opportunity for political discussion

United States electionThis year’s presidential election is one of the most closely watched in recent history and considerable attention is being given to the candidates’ debates. In a Debate Watch at Augusta State on Friday, October 8, in N126 Allgood Hall, interested persons can gather for refreshments, view the debates, and then take part in a discussion. A social begins at 8 p.m., and the televised debates begin at 9 p.m.

Communication professors Dr. Edgar Johnson and Dr. Gaye Ortiz are leading the effort to involve the ASU community and the general public in the political process, joined by Dr. Bill Reese, professor of sociology, and Dr. Paul Harris, associate professor of political science.

“We think that it’s an important election for both parties,” says Dr. Johnson. “We would like to provide the public with information about the debate.”

For more information, contact Dr. Johnson in the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communications at 737-1500.
