Augusta Choral Society founder and former Augusta College choral director Emily Remington will be honored at the annual fall Gala Concert on Thursday, October 14, at 8 p.m. at the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Ms. Remington founded the Augusta Choral Society in 1951 and was recently named conductor emerita for the organization. She began her career at Augusta College in 1964. Under her direction, members of the choral program performed tour concerts across the Southeast, New York, and Europe. She also served as organist and choir director at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection for 25 years and in the same position at St. John United Methodist Church for two years. After her retirement from the college in 1976, Ms. Remington moved to Charleston, S.C., where she formed the Charleston Symphony Singers Guild and began a 10-year faculty appointment at the College of Charleston. There, she taught piano, music appreciation, and related music courses. The gala concert that honors Ms. Remington will showcase the talents of students in the university’s choir, orchestra, wind ensemble, and jazz ensemble programs. Tickets for the event are $10, and proceeds will benefit music scholarships. Admission is free with a valid ASU ID.
