Holly Carter named assistant vice president for international affairs
Holly Carter, assistant professor of sociology, has been named the assistant vice president for international affairs, effective Jan. 1.
"I was really stunned at first, this was such a big promotion. I am really happy; I feel very gratified," says Dr. Carter.
Dr. Carter, who also serves as the program director of the European Council Paris Program, will be responsible for overseeing all study abroad programs sponsored by Augusta State University.
"I believe that Dr. Carter is singularly qualified to lead our study abroad efforts. She is extremely capable, and I am certain that her efforts will improve and expand our international study programs. Offering our students the opportunity to study abroad is very important to Augusta State University, and with Dr. Carter's leadership, our students and our programs will benefit enormously," says Samuel Sullivan, vice president for academic affairs.
Dr. Carter says that the programs main focus will be helping ASU students go abroad. She adds, "We will be listening to the students, going places where they want to go, providing affordable trips, and offering the classes they want to take."
In addition to overseeing the study abroad program, she will also facilitate international academic experiences for faculty, staff, and students as well as administration and coordination of development, fundraising, and scholarship distribution activities.
Dr. Carter received bachelor degrees from Midwestern State University and Augusta State University, masters' degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington, the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center, and the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She also has a doctorate from the University of North Texas.
