A monologue from Rick Davis' (communications and professional writing) dark comedy, Charlie's Bird Store , has been published in 221 One-Minute Monologues for Men. The book is a collection of recommended audition monologues including the works of William Shakespeare, Eugene O'Neill, Sam Shepard, and Steve Martin.  

Kim Davies and Bill Reese, sociology, criminal justice, and social work, were featured speakers at the Georgia Corrections Association Training Conference at St. Simons Island on Sept. 11. Dr. Davies discussed preparing women offenders for re-entry into society, and Dr. Reese spoke about preparations for re-entering juvenile offenders.

Hispanic Heritage Month is being honored by a collection of colorful and creative artifacts in the lobby of Reese Library. The collection belongs to Yadira Payne, Reese Library, who is a native of Puerto Rico. It will be on display from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15.

Gaye Williams Ortiz, communications and professional writing, had a literary review of Easing the Gravity Field: Poems of Science and Love published in the September issue of Reviews in Religion and Theology.

Kristin Casaletto, art, will have her work included in the Delta National Small Prints Exhibition, Oct. 19 - Nov. 17 at the Bradbury Gallery at Arkansas State University. In addition, she has been named Curatorial Consultant for Printmaking for the Fire House Gallery in Louisville, Ga.

Camilla Reid, Camilla Baker, and Jeff Heck, Reese Library, presented What Every Faculty Member Should Know About Information and Computer Literacies, and Joseph Schneider and Deborah Tritt, Reese Library, presented Usage of Government Documents by Social Science Students at Augusta State University at the annual meeting of the Georgia Council of Media Organizations (GACOMO) in Athens on September 21.

In September, Paul Harris, political science, presented a paper, A Tale of Two Cities: Local Government Response to Latino Immigration--Dalton and Gainesville, at the Conference on Georgia's Undocumented Workforce, held at Kennesaw State. Dr. Harris' co-authored book, Building a Diaspora: Russian Jews in Israel, Germany and the USA, has just been published by Brill Academic Press. He also recently co-authored a chapter titled Unwelcome Strangers to the New South: Georgia's Response to Undocumented Migration in the book, Challenge Migration: Perspectives of the Comparative Political Science.

Congratulations to the winners of the annual Faculty and Staff Golf Tournament on Sept. 8. First place was awarded to Graeme Connolly, kinesiology and health science, Tim Dobbs, carpentry shop, Dave Freeman, physical plant, and Phillip Pridgen, Office of Facilities Planning. Second place was awarded to Quentin Kuyper, Continuing Education, Lynda Lotz, biology, David Reid, husband of Camilla Reid, Reese Library, and Eric Zuckerman, chemistry and physics. Third place was awarded to Steve Hobbs, psychology, along with his wife, Sandy, and Jeff Miller, business administration, along with his son, Matthew. The "traveling" trophy went to Clint Bryant, athletics, Paul Gustafson, kinesiology and health science, Curtis Halyard, husband of Joyce Jones, student affairs, and Chip Matson, information technology services.

Anthony Kellman, communications and professional writing, had a poem, Travelers, published in Colere, the literary magazine of Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The poem explores the angst associated with traveling as metaphors for destinations of the individual's heart.

Bill Nelson, Reese Library, presented the workshop Practical Library Assessment: Applying the ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education in Albany, NY sponsored by Nylink, a library consortium, on September 14. He also presented Practical Approaches for Implementing ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education at the Georgia Library Association/Council of Media Organizations Conference in Athens, Ga. on September 22.

Reese Library government documents faculty and staff members, Joseph Schneider and Deborah Tritt, presented their findings from a 2004-2005 survey of social science students at ASU in their presentation, Usage of Government Documents by Social Science Students at Augusta State University, at the Georgia Council of Media Organizations’ annual meeting in Athens on September 21.

Marc Miller, dean of the Hull College of Business, discussed the new Focus on Ethics Speaker Series on the university’s 30-minute radio show, ASU Report-On Air. Charlotte Price, chair of the nursing department, and Georgina Hammock, assistant professor of psychology, were also featured in September. They discussed the upcoming Health Fair and Psychology Speaker Series.
