A-Day campus campaign goal nears goal

The totals are in and campus giving to the annual A Day for Augusta State University campaign is up again this year. The first-day total, $92,272, marks a more than $10,000 increase from last year. To date, $106,113 has been raised in the campus campaign, which is being chaired by Dr. James Garvey, professor of English. The goal is $110,000.

“Our campus volunteers are really coming through this year, and several departments reached the 100 percent mark on the first day,” says Ginger Chew, director of annual giving. “Faculty and staff have really been eager to give and I think we’re going to surpass the record set last year.”

So far, nine new members have also been added to the President’s Club: Dalton Brannen, College of Business Administration; Cathy Barner, Information Technology Services; Camilla Reid, Reese Library; Kim Davies, sociology; Sudha Ratan, political science; Robert Parham, Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences, Max Brown, Physical Plant; Saundra Reinke, political science; and Thomas Deering, College of Education.

The A-Day community drive will kick off on September 23 with a luncheon for the President’s Club at the Augusta Country Club. David S. “Deke” Copenhaver is leading the community campaign for the second year. The goal of this year’s A-Day campaign is to raise $390,000.

The drive culminates on October 8–A-Day–with a barbecue in the campus quadrangle. Award-winning barbecuer James Britt, ’75 will cook on site. Entertainment will be provided by Steel String Theory.

Proceeds from the $12.50 barbecue tickets will benefit faculty-alumni scholarships. The cost for students and those who buy tickets when they turn in an A-Day pledge card is $8.
