Beth Pendergraft, teacher development, recently received a doctoral award for professional excellence, excellence in scholarship, and outstanding service to the Middle and Secondary Education Instructional Technology Department and the educational community from Georgia State University.

Eric Skipper, languages, literature, and communication, had his short story, The Punkin’ Roller, published in a recent edition of RE:AL, The Journal of Liberal Arts. The story concerns an impostor who has the chance to rectify a corrupt existence with one bold act. The story also appears on the RE:AL web site.

William Nelson, library, had an article, Library Standards on Higher Education: An Overview, published in the most recent edition of the Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science.

Saundra Reinke, political science, Julie Goley, Career Center, and Lynthia Ross, Start-Up, were all selected to participate in the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Augusta group. The group aims to enhance the civic participation of emerging leaders within the region. Joyce Jones, dean of students, is leading this year’s class.

Therese Rosier, Physical Plant, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Augusta Symphony.

Kjirsten Ogburn, Physical Plant, is serving as assistant coach for the ASU cross country team.

Rosalyn Floyd, fine arts, performed at the closing banquet for the Black Issues in Higher Education Conference, June 19 in Arlington, Va., to honor the presence and accomplishments of eminent scholar and historian John Hope Franklin.

Jasper Cooke, public safety, recently participated in the 2004 Annual Summer Training conference of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police in Savannah.

Jurgen Brauer, College of Business Administration, served as an expert for the African Center for Strategic Studies' (ACSS) in its Senior Leader Seminar Defense Economics Curriculum Review in Fort McNair, Washington. The seminar is a two-week educational outreach effort for African top-level military and public security-sector personnel.

Louise Rice, associate professor emerita of reading, has been elected national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
