The positive results were achieved despite a significant increase in natural gas pricing. The flexibility provided by the Central Utilities Plant allowed the university to switch from gas to electricity to offset the higher costs. As a result, electricity usage increased 20 percent, while gas usage declined 51 percent. Part of the increase in electricity use also reflected the impact of University Hall. The flexibility of the Central Utilities Plant and conservation measures have allowed ASU to reduce and then hold flat energy costs over the past three years. “For the past nine years, things have been changing on campus,” says Therese Rosier, director of the Physical Plant. “We’ve been able to do things like set temperature limits and use smarter systems on the new buildings to help keep costs down. What that really means is that it's money we’re are saving and less money that has to be taken out of the budget.” THIS MONTH: University Hall Dedication | A Day Schedule | A Day Giving | Housing | Energy Costs | Film Series | Women's Studies Director | Cross Country Coach | Cashin Receives Award | Guardhouse Ornament | Campus Notables | Photos 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Calendar | Employee Spotlight | Office Visit | Birthdays | Quiz | ASU Report HOME
