“What is so exciting about this position is that it combines English and Women’s Studies,” says Dr. Launius. “It is a fantastic opportunity for me to be able to teach both.” Dr. Launius wears many hats as the new Women’s Studies director at ASU. She is responsible for advising students who are women’s studies minors, and she is the advisor to the Women’s Studies Student Association. She also is an assistant professor of English in the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communications. “The Women Studies program is interdisciplinary–an academic program that brings together courses and professors from all over the university,” Dr. Launius says. “What’s nice about women's studies is that it pushes students out into other areas of study.” The Benton, Illinois, native is no stranger to the program, however. She was the director of Women’s Studies at Ohio University for three years. Dr. Launius received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Illinois State University. She received a second master’s degree in women's studies from the University of Cincinnati. Last year, Dr. Launius received her doctorate in English from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
