Major: Chemistry Degree Objective: Pre-medical University highlights, achievements and awards: Dean's list Fall 2005 - Present, President of ASU Chemistry Club, Presented undergraduate research at the 2006 Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society, and at the 8th annual Phi Kappa Phi Student Research Conference, Awarded the 2008 Best Undergraduate Research in Chemistry Award High School: Lakeside Hometown: Chicago, IL I chose to attend ASU: While I have always had a passion for chemistry, an enlistment as an Air Force medic helped me to realize that I was made for medicine. I have been fervently persuing the eventuaul goal of a MD degree since late 2004, when I decided to leave my active-duty military career to complete my bachelor's degree and apply to medical school. I balance these efforts with my continued service as an aeromedical evacuation technician in the Air Force Reserves, and with my role as a husband and soon-to-be father. The classes are smaller, the professors are devoted to teaching and mentoring their students, and the Chemistry/Physics faculty are truly exceptional. For these reasons, I believe that a dedicated student has greater access to knowledge (and thus a greater opportunity to learn) at ASU than at most other Georgia universities. My favorite things to do on campus are: Meet with classmates and professors, discuss classwork, smalltalk, and take part in campus activities. When I have free time, I like: Hanging out with my wife, with my family, with my friends, and playing with my dog. Hiking, camping, running, playing Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and occasionally playing a real guitar. The craziest thing I've done is: I probably should't post that here... My favorite place to study is: I don't study. Just Kidding! Probably at home or at Allgood if it is an all-night group session. My favorite professor is: ...this isn't a fair prompt. Other professors might read this, and they all vie for my favor. Seriously, though, it would have to be Dr. Hobbs. She has been my advisor and mentor for the past 3 years, she's a fabulous teacher, and she wants nothing but the best for me. After graduation, I plan to: Raise my new son, and hopefully begin attending the Medical College of Georgia in August 2008. The one ASU experience I will always remember will be: Dunking both Dr. Hobbs and Dr. Andrus in the dunk tank at A-Day, Fall 2007. |
