Sohrab Tofigh
Major: Chemistry
Minor: Biology
Degree Objective: BS
High School: Lake Side High School
Hometown: Tehran, Iran
My name is Sohrab Tofigh and I have lived in Iran for about 15 years. I know three languages (Farsi, Arabic, and English) but I can only speak two (Farsi and English). When I was sixteen, I came to the U.S, and after graduating from Lake Side High School, I continued my education by attending Augusta State University in 2003. One of the major reasons for me to leave Iran was being able to pursue my future carrier as a physician, so I chose Chemistry as my major and biology as my minor to be prepared for medical school after obtaining my BS degree.

Chose to attend ASU because...
I chose to attend ASU for several reasons. ASU has wonderful and knowledgeable professors who provide a friendly and helpful environment for all the students. They also value each student by his/her hard work and not only by grades.
My favorite things to do on campus are...
I enjoy having lunch or dinner with my friends on campus, as well as playing table tennis and/or pool in the came room.
When I have free time, I like...
During my free time, I usually hang out with my friends, read a book, or do some poetry.
The craziest thing I've done is...
Well there are many of them, but one of the most memorable ones is when one of my friends and I accidentally overheated the product of a chemical reaction in a microwave and made a brown looking cream out of it that smelled like nachos ! (Dr. Crute, our organic chemistry professor, was so nice that he only laughed with us about it)
My favorite place to study is...
LS math-lab in Allgood Hall
My favorite professor is...
I like all of my professors, and cannot really choose a favorite one between them. They have always supported and helped me to be successful. However, Dr. Dona Hobbs, who is my advisor and has been my professor as well, has become more than a professor for me during the past years. She has always believed in me while supporting and guiding me to the right directions all the time. Therefore, it would not be right to say that she is my favorite “professor” because I consider her as a family member.
After graduation, I plan to...
I am a premed student, so I am planning to attend a medical school after graduating from ASU.
The one ASU experience I will always remember will be...
Preparing for the annual chemistry show that the ASU chemistry department holds for the elementary school students. |
