Faculty and Staff On the Move
Chip Darracott, kinesiology
and health science, presented Models for the
Promotion of Physical Activity and Health on the College Campus in the 21st
Century at the Georgia Association for Health,
Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. He was also a co-presenter with
faculty from several other state universities on How
Physically Fit are Georgia K-12 Students? Results of Phase I of the GAHPERD
Fitness Project.
Marsha
Maurer, languages, literature, and communications,
received the 37th annual Georgia Author of the Year Award for creative non-fiction,
inspirational division, for her book In the
Garden: A Collection of Prayers for Everyday
(Promise Press).
Brian Rust,
fine arts, gave an illustrated lecture of contemporary artists working in
the American West and Pacific Northwest at the Morris Museum of Art on July
22.
The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police has named Chief Jasper
Cooke, public safety, district representative
for District 7.
Tiffani H. Jones,
academic affairs, received an award for service rendered to the Clara E. Jenkins
Head Start Program of Augusta. She is also a business administration major
at ASU.
Wayne
Mixon, history and anthropology, presented a
paper entitled From
Isolationist to Interventionist: Erksine Caldwell
and the Second World War at the Siena College
(NY) Conference on World War II.
Ed Cashin,
Center for the Study of Georgia History, recently published Paternalism
in a Southern City: Race, Religion and Gender in Augusta, Georgia
(U.Georgia Press, 2001), and Beloved Bethesda,
A History of
George Whitefields Home for Boys, 1740-2000
(Mercer University Press, 2001).
Anthony
Kellman, languages, literature and communications,
published a new book of poetry (with CD by the same title), Wings
of a Stranger. He
also published a new poem, Day of Congregation,
in WASAFIRI,
(U. Londons literary journal-spring 2001).
Carol Giardina,
admissions, was selected for participation in the NAFSA Training Corps Professional
Development Program.
Vickie Williams,
psychology, gave a presentation entitled The
Influence of Parenting Practices on Adolescent Ethnic Identity
at the Southeastern
Psychological Association Conference in New Orleans.
Jurgen M. Brauer,
economics, gave a paper entitled Total and
Marginal Returns to Strategic Bombing: Germany, 1939-1945
for a conference at Rutgers University. He also spoke in Uppsala, Sweden,
on War and Nature: Data and Data Collection
Problems at a World Bank Data Conference and
in Larissa, Greece, on War and Nature: Assessment,
Valuation, and Liability: The Case of the Kosovo War, 1999.
Joyce Jones,
dean of students, was accepted to Leadership
Augusta.
Kathy
D. Schofe has been named director of public
relations and publications, after serving as acting director and as assistant
director. She joined Augusta State in 1995 after serving at Columbus State
University as a public relations specialist. Schofe is public relations officer
for the universitys chapter of the National Honor Society. She also
serves as secretary for the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerces Women
in Business Steering Committee and as vice president of AMBUCS (American Business
Clubs). She has bachelor and master degrees from Columbus State.
