ASU Prepares for New Semester

Augusta State will usher in fall semester with two convocations in August at the Maxwell Theatre. On Sunday, August 12, a New Student Convocation will acquaint about 300 new students–mostly freshmen–with the university and its resources. Dr. Joyce Jones, dean of students, will welcome the group and President William A. Bloodworth, Jr., will present the program. Greetings will also be brought by the SGA president, Winston Wang, and president of the alumni association, Hugh Hadden. Student success sessions will also be offered.

On Tuesday, August 14, at 8:15 a.m., Dr. Bloodworth will present his State of the University address at the 8th Annual Fall Convocation. The ceremony will also function as the first faculty meeting for fall semester, and new faculty members and administrators will be introduced. The 2001-02 Faculty Alumni Scholars will also be introduced.

The A Day for Augusta State University will be kicked off by the campus campaign co-chairs, Jim and Michele Benedict, mathematics professors. The community chair for the A-Day Campaign, Elaine Clark Smith, will also bring greetings. Refreshments will be served following the hour-long program.

A campus celebration of A-Day will take place at 4 p.m. at the Maxwell Alumni House, and all faculty and staff are invited to attend.
