Richardson Named Psychology Chair
Dr.
Deborah Richardson has been named as the new chair of the Department of Psychology.
She previously served at Florida Atlantic University and at the University
of Georgia where she was associate chair of the department and chair of the
social psychology program. She was also a visiting associate professor for
a year at the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Richardson's primary research is on the study of interpersonal aggression
and conflict, with emphasis on gender differences in aggression and the nature
and consequences of indirect aggression in different age groups.
She is a co-author of a textbook titled Human Aggression
and she has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles in professional
journals. Dr. Richardson has also made more than 125 presentations at regional,
national, and international conferences.
A native of Hampton, Virginia, she received her doctoral degree from Kent
State University in 1978. She earned a master's degree from the College of
William and Mary and a bachelor's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University
(1972).
Dr. Richardson will be teaching General Psychology and Statistics. She will
assume her new responsibilities on August 13.
