ASU Hosts Week of Welcome for Fall Semester Students
Fall
semester students will start off with a Week of Welcome this year during which
time scheduled activities will introduce new and returning students to the
people and resources of Augusta State. The activities, planned by the Dean
of Students, get underway on the first day of classes, Monday, August 20.
The first event, S.O.S. Day, will acquaint students with student services, clubs, and organizations from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in Washington Hall Cafeteria. On Tuesday, August 21 at noon, students will meet and talk with ASU coaches and athletes in the Washington Hall cafeteria. On Wednesday, August 22, a Student Services Expo will feature campus support services, including the computer center, writing center, counseling and testing center, career center, student activities, and others. On Thursday, a cook-out at the entrance to the Science Building will feed students, beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until the food is gone. Friday, Spirit Day, will feature faculty and staff wearing ASU tee-shirts or the school colors, blue and white. Offices are encouraged throughout the week to provide a "welcoming" atmosphere and to assist students in their transition to classes and to college life.
"Starting college is an exciting time for new students," says Dr. Joyce Jones, dean of students. "The first days of college life can also be pretty overwhelming. Finding their way around campus, meeting new people, discovering what's expected in their classes these can be pretty daunting experiences. We just want the students to know that we know what they're going through and that we are here to support them," she added.
