Partners in Education Organizers Meet at ASU
Organizers
of the newly-founded Partners in Education program, an educational effort
aimed at increasing access to higher education among graduating area seniors,
met with Senator Charles Walker Nov. 15 at the Maxwell Alumni House.
Partners in Education provides activities throughout the academic year
and during the following summer, said Dr. William Dodd, associate dean
of University College and chair of the Partners in Education committee. All
the activities are aimed at improving those students participation in
post-secondary education.
The year-long educational program culminates with a four-week workshop in
June held on the ASU campus. The program is a collaboration between ASU, the
Richmond County Board of Education, T.W. Josey and Lucy Laney Comprehensive
High Schools.
Sen. Walker, an Augusta native and ASU alumnus, is the state Senate majority
leader and was instrumental in securing funding for the program.
