Pettit Named Acting Dean

PettitThe Pamplin College of Arts and Sciences will undergo a change this summer as the 10-year dean steps down from her post.

Dean Elizabeth House, has asked to return to the faculty, and Dr. M. Edward Pettit Jr. will become acting dean at the end of the academic year.

“We’re obviously sorry to lose Dean House, she’s been a tremendously effective dean for the past 10 years. We’re thankful we’re not losing her altogether,” said Dr. Bill Bompart, vice president for academic affairs. “We have every confidence in the world that Dr. Pettit will carry on her success as acting dean.”

Dr. Pettit’s appointment begins when Dean House’s resignation takes effect July 1, 2002. Dr. House is a professor of English in the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication.

Dr. Pettit, a professor of mathematics and computer science, has been at
ASU since 1977.

The search for a permanent dean begins July 1 with the start of the new fiscal year, Dr. Bompart said.
