Senator Charles Walker Key Speaker at Veterans Day Ceremony

Senator Charles Walker was the key speaker at the annual Augusta State University’s Veterans Day ceremony November 9.

Special tribute was paid to two university ROTC alumni who lost their lives in service to our country. Maj. Stephen V. Long, ’89, lost his life in the September 11 terrorist attack at the Pentagon, and Capt. Kenneth A. Sexton, ’89, lost his life in a training mission.

Maj. Long’s wife, Tina Long, and Capt. Sexton’s mother, Lorene James, attended the ceremony and accepted framed guidons from Maj. Anthony Laterza, chair and professor of military science. A replica of a bronze plaque honoring the ROTC alumni killed in service to their country was unveiled. The plaque will be displayed in Allgood Hall.
