Department of Nursing undergoes re-accreditation

Area residents can express their views about Augusta State University’s nursing program, Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 4 - 4:45 p.m. in Skinner Hall, D-4. The open meeting is part of its evaluation for re-accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission on Feb. 6 - 8.

The nursing program’s last review was in 1994 when it received its eight-year accreditation. The NLNAC is a nationally recognized accrediting agency for all types of nursing programs.
The nursing program will be evaluated by a qualified, independent group of individuals in the medical field who are to ensure that the program is meeting its educational goals. Re-accreditation for the program will continue to give it eligibility for entitlement programs, provide professional development and validation for faculty, and aid in the recruitment process.

According to Letha Lierman, nursing department chair, the reaccredidation indicates the programs quality and its ability to meet the needs of the students.
