Clint
Bryant, athletics director, was honored by the National Collegiate Athletic
Association for his leadership and service over the past two years. At their
annual convention in Orlando, Fla., he was honored by resolutions from the membership
for his chairmanship of the Division II Management Council.
Michael Searles, history and anthropology, participated in a book signing of The Black Cowboys of Texas sponsored by Texas A&M University Press at the Western History Association's Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. He also served on the Awards Committee.
Stevan R. Clements, Cree Walker Distinguished Professor of Communications, made a recent presentation to the Augusta Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists on the topic of Ethics in Television Broadcasting.
Mark Warner, teacher development, made a presentation entitled Creating and Showcasing Web-based Problem Based Learning in Partner Schools at the Georgia P-16 Network Partner Schools Conference, held in Macon.
Mary
Gendernalik Cooper, teacher development, made several presentations at
the Georgia P-16 Network Partner Schools Conference in Macon: Self-Assessment
of Partner School Initiative Using NCATE Standards and Participant
Perceptual Surveys, Constructivist Leadership in a PDS Collaborative,
and P-16 in Action - Editing Journal Focusing in Partner
School Development in Georgia.
Barry R. Thomson, teacher development, co-presented several sessions at the Eastern Regional Conference of National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) in Baltimore, Md., including: Staff Development for Professional Growth of Science Teachers, Points of Contact as Educational Leaders, and Student-Centered Inquiry Labs.
Jasper Cooke, director of public safety, received a master of public administration degree in January from Columbus State University.
Charles and Shirley Darracott, kinesiology & health science, were recently named co-editors of the GAHPERD Journal, published by the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreations, and Dance. Charles Darracott will also continue as editor of GAME, the quarterly newsletter for GAHPERD.
Beth Pendergraft and Sharon Feaster, teacher development, along with teachers from local professional development schools, made several recent presentations. At the Georgia Network Partner Schools meeting in Macon, they presented: The Roles of the University and Building Coordinators and The CSRA P-16 Problem Based Learning Initiative. At the Georgia Read Write Now Conference at Georgia State University during January, Pendegraft also presented Training Tutors for Success and Feaster presented Engaging Students in Discussion.
Michael
B. Bishku, history and anthropology, made a presentation entitled Water
Resources and Turkey's Relations with its Arab Neighbors at the 7th International
Seminar on Current Problems in Africa and the Middle East in Havana. In addition,
he served on a panel discussion, Caspian Sea States:
New Development and Evolving Policies. He also presented the lecture
Turkey and The Tigris-Euphrates Basin: A Future Source
of Conflict at the U.S. Air Force Academy held in Colorado.
Jurgen M. Brauer, economics, lectured at three universities in Turkey: Koc University, Anakara University, and Afyon Kocatepe University. In addition, he presented Environmental Impact on War at the Allied Social Science Association annual meeting in New Orleans and Environmental Impact of the Persian Gulf to the Phi Kappa Phi Forum at ASU.
Dianna
Barnes, nursing, was named Employee of the Summer Semester. Barnes was
nominated by the nursing department, for which she has served as an administrative
specialist since June 1994. In her spare time, she enjoys riding horses and
spending time with her husband, Roger.
