President Bloodworth Selected as Chair of Georgia Medical Center Authority

The recently established Georgia Medical Center Authority (GMCA) held its January meeting on the campus of Augusta State with about a dozen ASU faculty and administrators in attendance. The ASU delegation was invited to learn more about the purpose and history of the authority as well as possible involvement by the university with its activity. Cathy Slade, consultant, shared the vision and history of the authority, and Matthew Klugar, vice president for research at the Medical College of Georgia, spoke about research and intellectual property development at MCG. William A. Bloodworth, Jr., PhD, chaired the meeting, after having been elected at the Authority's first meeting in December. He says that GMCA holds several opportunities for Augusta State, including an increased demand for graduates in related fields, possibly new academic programs, more consulting opportunities for faculty with start up and existing companies, and improved community life, including K-12 education. Dr. Bloodworth will hold a meeting with faculty and staff interested in learning about GMCA on Friday, February 23, at noon in the Towers. Attendees should confirm their attendance by calling ext. 1440.
