CooperPublic Safety Adopts Family for the Holidays

The ASU public safety office 'adopted' a family for the holidays. They got the name of the family from the principal at Lamar Elementary, one of ASU's adopted schools.

The single mother and her three children were treated to a basket of food and a turkey at Thanksgiving. They are in a new apartment and do not have a washing machine, so in early December the public safety office gave the mother an early Christmas gift of a washing machine.

On Dec. 21 at 11 a.m., several public safety officers played Santa and dropped off additional Christmas presents, as well as a turkey and more food for a holiday meal.

"We're able to make things better for one family," said Jasper Cooke, chief of public safety. "We can see the family that the gifts are going to, so it's more on a personal level."

ASU Scores High in Regent's Testing Program
Augusta State University scored eighth out of the 34 schools system-wide in the University System of Georgia Regent's Testing Program. The scores were based on passing rates for first-time examinees for fall 2001.
