ROTC holds commissioning ceremony
Six
graduating Augusta State University ROTC students became Army officers
in a commissioning ceremony held at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 in the Washington Hall
Towers.
The cadets were given the oath of office by Lt. Col. David Freeman, ASU
ROTC battalion commander. They are 2nd Lts. Charlene Moore, business administration;
Eugene Irby III, finance; Willie Hutchinson, computer science; Ken Hughes,
computer science; Russell Hamann, Jr., human resource management; and
Melissa Ellis, pre-medicine.
The battalion, which has approximately 75 cadets enrolled in the program,
commissions more officers each year than many of the larger schools within
the University System of Georgia, according to battalion officials.
Retired Gen. Douglas Buchholz, former Fort Gordon commander, was the guest
speaker.
