Thirteen fine arts faculty displayed their works at the Fine Art Faculty Exhibition at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art from Nov. 4-22. They were Nina Benedetto, Kristin Casaletto, Carissa Doying, Dorothy Eckmann, Pamela D. Ferguson-Haggins, Jennifer Onofrio, Priscilla Hollingsworth, Philip Morsberger, Tom Nakashima, Brian Rust, Susan Senn-Davis, Dianne Sweet, and Janice Williams Whiting. Several faculty members also exhibited their artwork at the Mary Pauline Gallery from Nov. 18-Dec. 23, as part of the Holiday Exhibition 2005. They were Mr. Morsberger, Mr. Nakashima, Mr. Rust, and Ms. Williams Whiting.

Anthony Kellman, languages, literature, and communications, has been recognized by the Augusta Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau as an Augusta Champion, “for generating an estimated $60,648 in direct visitor spending from the Sandhills Writers Conference in metro Augusta.” Recently, he also had two poems published, A Diviner’s Burial, which appeared in Margin: Exploring Magical Realism, and The Migration, which appeared in Visions International. Professor Kellman also read poetry and performed music at The Gold Mine in New Orleans as part of the annual program, 17 Poets Reading Series.

Brian Rust, fine arts, had one of his drawings procured by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (based in Atlanta) for their permanent collection. The work on paper was based on his Reconstruction Totem series dating from 2003.

Bill Wells
Bill Wells aboard the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Kodiak Island at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Bill Wells, Reese Library, was interviewed aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Kodiak Island at St. Petersburg, Fla., for an episode on the Discovery Channel about the U.S. Coast Guard in Vietnam of which he was a participant. He has written and published on the topic in Vietnam Magazine and U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings. The episode will air in mid-2006.

News Briefs:

A reception to welcome Marc Miller as the new dean of the College of Business Administration will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, from 5-7 p.m. on the first floor of University Hall.
