Military Science building gets new circular entrance

Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage describes Augusta State University's Army ROTC program. These seven Army values will be depicted as spokes in the granite outside the Military Science Department entrance in Galloway Hall.

Col. (Ret.) Dave Freeman, assistant director of physical plant was the military science department chair when he was approached by Therese Rosier, director of physical plant, about redesigning the entrance to Galloway Hall at the same time that a drainage problem was being corrected. Following Col. Freeman's retirement in 2004 from the U.S. Army, he accepted his current position in the physical plant, and he continued to work on the landscape project.

The new circular entrance will be utilized not only as an entryway, but also as an alternate location for smaller commissioning ceremonies. "In the center of the entryway will be the Leadership in Excellence crest which is also the cadet command's unit patch," says Col. Freeman.

The landscape project was designed by Kjirsten Ogburn, architectural drafter in the physical plant.

"We're excited about having a very formal entry. Our current entry is outdated, but the new entryway will bring us up to par with the rest of the campus," says Lt. Col. Michele Goddette, chair of the Department of Military Science.

"We wouldn't have been able to complete the new entryway without Dr. Robert Parham and Dr. Robert Jarman. Their assistance has been instrumental in this project," says. Col. Goddette.
