ASU
Commencement Held Dec. 16

A few thousand friends and
family members gathered in the Physical Education/Athletic Complex December 16
to watch 336 graduates receive diplomas from Augusta State. The youngest graduate
was 19; the oldest, 62. Joseph D. Greene, the Cree-Walker Professor of Business
Administration and this year's recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Member Award,
was the featured speaker. Greetings were brought by Timothy Shelnut, a member
of the Board of Regents, and by Hugh Hadden, president of the alumni association.
Included among the graduates was Hannah Matthews, an administrative specialist
in Reese Library who was awarded a master of education degree. As is the tradition
of ASU employees presenting diplomas to family members, she presented her husband,
Richard Matthews, with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. The valedictorian
was Glenda Ann Fraley who graduated with a 4.0 grade point average. Also included
in the graduating class were three students who completed the military science
program and were commissionees as officers in the U. S. Army.
