Officer Nancy JamesOfficer Nancy James wins Staff Excellence Award

Congratulations to Officer Nancy James! Officer James won the Staff Excellence Award for Fall 2002. She has been with the Department of Public Safety for three years and hopes to retire here.

“Working in the Department of Public Safety has to be the best job I have ever had. The staff of Public Safety, along with the leadership of Jasper Cooke and my direct supervisor Lt. Gavitt, allows me to do my job and makes for a wonderful working atmosphere,” said Officer James.

In addition to her regular assigned duties, she has a collection rate of almost 80 percent on returned checks for the University. Her tact, public relation skills, and professionalism reflect positively on the institution. Officer James has volunteered numerous hours to support ASU activities.

Officer James was surprised by council and her co-workers with balloons, a $50 check, and a plaque honoring her. “ Nancy, on behalf of all the Council, you are why ASU is such a great place to work! Thank you for all that you do,” said Patty Waggy, Council Chair.

There is no ASU without “U”

That’s Right! The Staff Advisory Council is sponsoring a campaign to highlight staff members and to show how much they are appreciated here at ASU. This campaign will begin in April. "ASU is a great place to work, and we want everyone to know it," says Waggy, adding, "The Council will have some fun things for staff members during the upcoming months so stayed tuned and remember – There is no ASU without U!”

An Open Forum for all staff members has been set for May 15th. This forum will be an opportunity for you to ask questions, make comments, or get clarification on institutional items. The council will accept questions anonymously from staff members and have these read during the forum, or staff members can ask questions themselves. Please begin thinking about items that you would like addressed. Next month the location and time will be announced in the ASU Report. The council wants to send a special thank-you to all staff members for their extra work, patience, and understanding during the past several months. Thanks for all you do!

If there are items that staff members would like to be included in the next issue of the ASU Report, please submit them to Patty Waggy on behalf of the council. These could be campus or community accomplishments that you would like to share.
