ASU Staff Advisory Council Report

The Staff Excellence Award for Spring Semester 2002 was awarded to Rolf Cooke. He has been employed at in the Department of Computer Services as a support specialist for the past three years. As you know, Rolf is one of the many knowledgable people who you talk with when you call the help desk, and he is extremely helpful, polite, and courteous. Written on his nomination form was the statement “It is not just that he always knows the answers or finds the answer, but he has a calming influence on situations when people are extremely frustrated”. Rolf says the best part of his job is “Helping people to help themselves”. The SAC and Computer Services staff surprised Rolf with balloons, a plaque and a check for the spring semester.

During the 2002 Employee Retirement and Recognition Program, the yearly winner of the Staff Excellence Award was announced. The winner was selected from awardees of each of the past three academic terms: Rick Sulzycki, library assistant – summer 2001; Nancy James, public safety officer – fall 2001; and Rolf Cooke, computer support specialist III, spring 2002. We are proud to announce that Rolf Cooke was the winner. Rolf received a framed print of the Arsenal buildings and a check for $1000. “Picking a semester winner is hard enough, but having to pick the yearly winner is even harder! There are three deserving nominees, and if we had our way all would win. These people are truly what makes ASU great!” says Patty Waggy, chair of the SAC.

Also during the program, the Staff Advisory Council Appreciation Award was awarded to the Department of Public Safety. This award was developed by the Council last year to recognize a department for their support and dedication to Augusta State University. "All the staff of
Public Safety go out of their way not only for our campus, but for our community, and their efforts do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all that you do for us," said Patty Waggy.

Augusta State University First Annual Staff Forum –
The SAC invites you to the first annual staff forum being held on Monday, May 13, at 11 a.m. – noon in Galloway Hall. This is your opportunity to ask questions, make comments, and get clarification on subjects and/or topics that affect you. If you prefer, questions can be submitted anonymously, which will be read at the forum, to Patty Waggy, chair of the SAC. There will be door prizes and refreshments. Remember, “THERE IS NO ASU WITHOUT U!”

If there are items that staff members would like to be included in the next issue of the ASU Report please submit them to Patty Waggy on behalf of the council. These could be campus or community accomplishments that you would like to share.
