Christina Prophet named ASU's Idol
The first-ever ASU Idol was selected by audience vote Friday evening, with Christina Prophet taking the honors. Four finalists, selected earlier in preliminary competitions, performed each singing two songs. The four finalists were Christina Prophet, Calie Renee Biggar, Stephanie Davis, Courtney Rambo. Students in the audience voted at intermission for the candidate they wanted to see win the honor and the cash award of $1,000.
Ms. Prophet sang two original compositions, playing piano on the first and guitar on the second. A panel of judges—Michael Searles, assistant professor of history, Therese Rosier, director of Physical Plant, and Joyce Jones, vice president for student services—provided scoring and
commentary. President William A. Bloodworth, Jr., served as emcee.
The Jim Daddies (led by math professors Jim and Michelle Benedict) provided entertainment during intermission and prior to the competition. Following intermission, a faculty/staff competition
featured Eric Zuckerman, associate professor of chemistry, and Beatrice Rehbein, custodian in the Jaguar Student Activities Center. A tie was declared in that competition.
