Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Arturo O’ Farrill will perform as part of the ASU’s Lyceum and Cullum Series at 7 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. Concertante (String Ensemble) will perform as part of the ASU’s Lyceum Series beginning with a pre-concert show at 7:15 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre. Augusta State’s Monday Night Film Series will feature the film The Aura at 7 p.m. in 170 University Hall. This just-released film tells the story of a taxidermist on a hunting expedition who finds himself alone in the woods with a gun, stalking a stag, and killing a man by mistake. ASU’s Sand Hills Writers Conference will begin with a keynote address by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stephen Dunn at 11 a.m. on March 22 in 101 Galloway Hall. Free readings and book signings will take place that evening at 5:30 p.m., 101 Galloway Hall. A concert by Nashville singer-songwriter Tom Kimmell will begin that night at 9:15 p.m. at Le Chat Noir, Eighth and Ellis Streets. Brazilian poet and philosopher Silvia Anspach will present The Process of Artistic Creation at 3 p.m., March 23, in 170 University Hall. ASU’s Opera will present Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at 8 p.m., March 23-24, and 3 p.m., March 25, in the Maxwell Theatre. The opera, which is the earliest operatic masterpiece in the English language, tells the story of the doomed love affair between Queen Dido of Carthage and Aeneas, who goes on to found the city of Rome.
