ASU Opera presents Dido and Aeneas

Augusta, Ga. - One of the first masterpieces of opera will be performed by the Augusta State University Opera. Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas will be presented, in English, on Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, March 25, at 3 p.m. in ASU’s Maxwell Theatre.

The opera, adapted from part of the Aeneid by Virgil, will feature ASU Idol, Christina Prophet, chorus members from Davidson Fine Arts School, and dancers from the Augusta Ballet School and Dance Augusta.

“This is also a wonderful example of a small-scale baroque opera and 17th century masque entertainment,” says Patricia Myers, lecturer in music in the Department of Music.

General admission, $10; seniors, $8; and all non-ASU students, $5. ASU faculty, staff, and students admitted free with a valid ID. For more information or tickets, call ASU’s Maxwell Theatre box office at 706-667-4100.
