Hit Broadway play will be presented by ASU’s Theatre Program

Augusta, Ga. - Lorraine Hansberry’s play, A Raisin in the Sun, which debuted on Broadway in 1959 will be presented by Augusta State University’s Theatre Program.

The play, based on Ms. Hansberry's own experiences growing up in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood, will be held Thursday, April 19, through Saturday, April 21, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 22, at 3 p.m. in the Maxwell Theatre.

A Raisin in the Sun was the first play written by an African-American woman to be produced on Broadway and is about a young man struggling with his station in life. Sharing a tiny apartment with his wife, son, sister, and mother, he seems like an imprisoned man until his family gets an unexpected financial windfall.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors, and $5 for students. For tickets, call ASU’s Maxwell Theatre Box Office at 706-667-4100. For more information, call ASU’s Department of Communications and Professional Writing at 706-729-2416.
