Cooke elected treasurer of IACLEA

Augusta, Ga.– Jasper A. Cooke, the Director of Public Safety at Augusta State University, has been elected treasurer of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, Inc. (IACLEA) for 2008-09. As treasurer, Cooke will chair the board’s Finance Committee and will be responsible for overseeing IACLEA’s funds and records.

Mr. Cooke has more than 27 years of campus public safety experience in Georgia. He started his career at Augusta College in 1981 and was the assistant director when he left in 1992 to assume a similar position at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. He became the director of Public Safety at Columbus State University in 1997 and returned to Augusta State University in 2000.

He is currently responsible for Police and Parking services at Augusta State University. He has been active in the Georgia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, serving as President in 1993-94, and from 1998-2004. He served the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police as a district vice president.

Active in university and community affairs, Mr. Cooke serves as president of the ASU Athletic Jaguar Club and is the past president of Prevent Child Abuse-Augusta, a non-profit organization that serves the community by providing child abuse prevention information. He also sits on the executive board of the Augusta Judicial Domestic Violence Task Force, which was established in the fall of 2002 to address the drastic number of domestic violence issues in the Augusta area.

Mr. Cooke earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Augusta State and a master’s degree in public administration from Columbus State University.
