Jean
Balogh and Charlotte Price had their
article Using Alumni to Mentor Nursing Students at
Risk published in the September/October 2001 issue of Nurse
Educator. The article was based on the ASU Department of Nursing Mentoring
Program.
Sculpture Jennifer Onofrio, fine arts,
currently has 10 pieces of her work on display in the Figurative Metaphors
exhibit at the Rochester Art Center in Minnesota. Additionally, two of her
sculptures were exhibited at the S.O.F.A. International Sculpture Art Expo
in Chicago Oct. 6-7, from Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Mo.,
and the Snyderman Gallery in Philadelphia.
Edward Cashin, Center for the Study of
Georgia History, gave a talk to the Georgia Historical Society in Savannah
Oct. 4. The talk was centered on Bethesda, the home for boys founded by the
Rev. George Whitfield in 1740. The speech was also taped for broadcast on
Georgia Public Radio.
Dr. William Bloodworth, ASU president,
addressed Augustans Together Oct. 9 as part of the organizations monthly
meeting focusing on anti-racism. Bloodworth, Daniel Rahn, MCG president, Terry
Elam, Augusta Tech president, and others offered their ideas on how to address
current issues which divide residents along the lines of ethnicity and religion.
Bill Bompart, academic affairs, gave a humorous presentation of Math Its Like, Everywhere, Oct. 20, as the keynote address for the Georgia Mathematics Conference.
Paul Gustafson, kinesiology
and health science, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Walton
Technologies, Inc.
Sherider
Shockey was selected as Physical Plant Employee of the Quarter for
the third quarter. Shockey is a custodial crew leader at the New Science Building,
and has been working at ASU for eight months. She is married, has two children,
and her hobbies include reading and horseback
riding.
Joanne Sexton, math and computer science, received certification as
a Certified Information Systems Security Professional by the International
Standard for Information Security. Only 5,000 security professionals worldwide
hold this type of certification.

by Brian Rust, fine arts, will be featured
on Touch the Earth
The Art of Nature-based
Sculpture on SCTV 7:30 p.m., Dec. 6. The program is a documentary on
the South Carolina Botanical Gardens sculptures, to which Rust contributed.
Rust also has developed a web site highlighting his works at www.aug.edu/~brust
Barbara Argo, College of Education, recently
conducted two workshops for the Cicero, Illinois School District on Effective
Strategies to Build Vocabulary and Enhance
Comprehension for teachers of grades 3 to 8.
From teacher development, Emam Hoosain
had What does it mean to understand Mathematics?
published in the August Humanistic Mathematics Network
Journal. Additionally, Hoosain presented Operations
with Fractions using Discrete Materials at the North Carolina Council
of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference Oct. 11 in Greensboro, N.C.,
and at the annual Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Oct. 18 at Rock
Eagle, Ga.
