Director of Computer Services
Chip Matson has been named as the new director of computer services. He is a graduate of Augusta State University ('78 and '91) and previously worked at the Medical College of Georgia. He joined MCG in 1979 as a computer programmer and became manager of technical support in 1984. He was promoted to director of information services, technical operations in 1992 and served in that capacity until joining ASU.
New Women's Golf Coach Named
Shannon Hanson has been named as the first women's golf coach at ASU. A native of Louisiana, she is a 1997 graduate of Louisiana State University with a bachelor's degree in General Studies.
Seawell Assumes New Role
Jay Seawell, athletics, has assumed a new role in addition to that of coaching the 15th nationally ranked Division I men's golf team. He has been named Director of Golf, overseeing the men's and women's golf programs. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he previously was coach of men's golf at Anderson College before joining ASU.
ASU Professor Recognized for Service
Pedro Hoyos-Salcedo, languages, literature, and communications, received international honors when he was selected by Grupo Cultura Foundation and SOPROCOL as the Best Colombian Professional of the Year 2000 in Georgia. The award, presented in a ceremony in Atlanta that was attended by the Consuls of Colombia, Guatemala, and Ecuador, recognizes his many years of teaching excellence and his contributions to Hispanic American literature publications. In 1995 Hoyos-Salcedo published a collection of 13 essays that spanned four centuries of Hispanic-American literature entitled "De Cortes Garcia Marquez." In 1999 he published "No Human Being is Illegal." Hoyos-Salcedo, an associate professor of Spanish, is a graduate of the Universidad Santiago de Cali, the University of Massachusetts, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
