A Day

Campus giving for the annual fund drive A Day for Augusta State University– exceeded the $100,000 goal by nearly $6,000, according to the director of the annual fund, Mary F. Davis. "We are very excited over the success of the campus campaign," she says. Even more exciting, she adds, is the increase in the number of ASU employees who contributed: 77 percent, compared to 63 percent last year. "Much of the credit for this increase is due to the energy and creativity of the campus A Day coordinators Jim and Michele Benedict," Davis says. "They created a lot of excitement about giving." Included in the new total are seven new members of the President's Club, contributors who give or pledge $1,000. They include Ray Whiting, political science, Marc Miller, business administration, Fred Maynard, math and computer science, Bob Johnston, sociology; Jasper Cooke, public safety; Ettie Westjohn, business administration; and Sam Robinson, math and computer science.

The Benedicts, who kicked off the campus campaign to music at the first faculty meeting in Augusta as Blind Brother Pledge and Sister Pledge, were also pleased with the campus results. "The outpouring of support by faculty and staff who have been making such a tremendous effort for the past few years in extra work towards semester conversation and reaccreditation is truly remarkable." The community phase of the A Day campaign ends on October 6. Over the seven years that the A Day for Augusta State University campaign has taken place, events have expanded to include a week of activities, beginning October 3 this year and ending with the campus celebration on A Day, the 6th.
