Phi Kappa Phi Holds Forum

In connection with the 75 anniversary of the university and the celebration of A Day for Augusta State University, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will be holding a forum in Galloway Hall on October 6 from 9 a.m. through noon, entitled World Religions and the Search for Meaning. The forum is free and refreshments will be served. A breakfast will precede the forum, attended by alumni and current members of the organization.

Three professors will make presentations on different aspects of religion: Susan E. Sherer, PhD, assistant professor of English, will discuss Memory and the Sabbath in Jewish Living. Jonathan E. Leightner, PhD, associate professor of economics, will present The Purpose of Life: A Comparison of Hinayana Buddhist and Christian Perspectives, and Ralph C.Watkins, DMin, PhD, assistant professor of sociology, will present Fishin' for Religion: Shadows of a Religious Movement. Watkins' paper deals with "socio-rap theology."

Shearer attended New York University for an undergraduate degree and received master and doctoral degrees from the University of Virginia. Watkins, earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, a master's degree from the University of Dubuque, a DMin from the Pittsburgh Theological seminary, and a doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Leightner earned bachelor and master degrees from Baylor University and a doctoral degree from the University of North Carolina.

Art Exhibition Opens October 5

Works of faculty artists will be displayed in the annual Faculty Art Exhibit, which opens October 5 in the Fine Arts Gallery with a reception from 5- 7 p.m. The exhibition runs through October 31. Faculty participating in the annual event include:

Psychology and Psi Chi Present Fall Speakers Series

The Department of Psychology and Psi Chi will present the first of four scheduled programs in its Fall Speaker Series on October 6 at noon. All programs in the annual program are held at noon on Fridays in the Butler Lecture Hall and admission s free.
