DUI: A Powerful Lesson
Augusta
State will celebrate Alcohol Awareness Week October 14-20, and highlighting
the week's activities will be a hardhitting free program on drunk driving
Sunday, October 14, at 7 p.m. in Washington Hall Café. Mark Sterner
will relate his personal experience of a crash that killed three passengers
in a car he was driving.
Sterner and three fraternity brothers were celebrating their final night during
a spring break in Florida when he, as the "least drunk," was chosen
to drive. A video camera they had taken along to record their evening was
running until 15 minutes before the crash, and Sterner uses this in his presentation.
He suffered serious injures and served three years in prison. He was paroled
in 1996 and now lectures extensively on the dangers of drinking and driving.
Other activities during the week include Mocktails on Monday, October 15,
from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Butler Hall. Information, giveaways and Twister will
be available from 9 a.m. - noon on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Butler Hall and on
Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 17 and 18, in front of Reese Library. For more
information, contact the Office of Student Activities, 737-1609.
