Ronald WigginsALUMNI SPOTLIGHT:
Ronald J. Wiggins

The September alumni spotlight shines on Augusta State University graduate and Alumni Association Board of Directors member, Ronald J. Wiggins. Ron holds three degrees from ASU and is currently in the final stages of completing his Educational Doctorate with the joint ASU/Georgia Southern University program. In 1990, Ron received his Bachelor’s Degree in communications followed by his Masters in Public Administration in 1998 and went on to complete a Specialist Degree in 2000 in Educational Leadership. Ron was honored as the inaugural recipient of the new Alumni Association Young Alumnus Award at the Alumni Association’s Annual Dinner in February 2001.

Ron has been employed by the Richmond County Board of Education since 1992 teaching sixth and eighth grade language arts until 1999 and now serves as Assistant Principal at Hephzibah High School. Sego Middle School was proud to call Ron their coach when he led them to the county basketball championship in 1996 where the team had four playoff appearances and earned two regular season titles. Ron is also a member of the ASU Masters in Public Administration advisory committee and was recognized in 1998 as a member of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He is a member of the Phi Delta Kappa educational fraternity and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Attending ASU is certainly a family tradition for the Wiggins. Ron’s father, Roosevelt Wiggins, was one of the first five African Americans to attend then Augusta College, in 1970. Nita and Felicia Wiggins, Ron’s sisters, are also both graduates of Augusta State. Perhaps we will also see Ron’s seven year old daughter, Jasmine, become a third generation alum.

In his spare time, Ron enjoys home improvement activities, weightlifting, fishing, and spending time with close friends. Ron’s favorite motivational phrase, “faith and perseverance opens doors”, must be true because he has certainly has an impressive list of accomplishments and will soon be known as Doctor Ronald J. Wiggins.
