A comprehensive study of the international political system, concentrating on the environmental factors, theories of international relations, the nation state and nationalism, international conflict, international cooperation, transnational institutions, balance of power and collective security, military strategy, the role of diplomacy, the dynamics of national foreign policy, the role of nuclear weapons in world politics, and other contemporary problems. A survey of the sources and types of international law: the law of peace, the law of conflict, the law of neutrality; the antecedents of the United Nations; the United Nations and its specialized agencies; regional organizations and international integration. This course is designed to provide students with general information on the political systems of Latin American countries. This course is the study of the system of activities developed by elites for modifying the behavior of other elites and systems and for adjusting their own activities to the international environment.
