THE ISLAMIC WORLD

In the Spring of 2002, several Augusta State University students joined Allen Scarboro in an exploration of the worlds of Islam. We surveyed the history, beliefs and practices of Muslims from the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, blessed be he, to the lives of contemporary Muslims.

Over one-fifth of all living humans follow the teachings of Muhammad. These believers show enormous variety in their personal lives and in the societies in which they live. They are bound into one community by their adherence to the Five Pillars of Islam:

      the Tawheed or Shahadah

The affirmation: There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.

      Salat

              Prayer[five times a day]

      Sawm

Fasting during the month of Ramadan

      Zakat

             Almsgiving

      Hajj

             Pilgrimage to Mecca

The websites are presentations to highlight both the diversity and the communalities that make up Islamic Worlds. We welcome your visit and your comments.
