The Sociology Club encourages student participation in activities that promote the study of
the social aspects of human life and those that build stronger relations among faculty in the
department, students interested in sociology, and members of the wider community. Membership
in the Sociology Club is open to all interested students.
The Sociology Club has always been one of the most active student organizations on the ASU
campus. The club has twice won the "Club of the Year Award" for outstanding service to Augusta
State University and the community. Club members raise money through bake sales, hot dog sales,
yard sales, etc., for a number of local charities (e.g., Shelter for Abused Women, Catholic
Social Services, Shelter for Abused Children) as well as helping to fund student participation
in professional associations.
The club has helped to sponsor the participation of about 40
students at six professional meetings where students presented papers and participated in
roundtables, workshops, and poster sessions.
The club conducted two major book drives and then raised the money to ship the books to Maria
Curie Institute in Poland and Lakota Junior College on the Lakota Indian Reservation. The club
also conducts the Golden Harvest Food Bank's annual holiday food drive on the ASU campus.
Recently, the Sociology Club has worked jointly with the Criminal Justice Club and AKD on a
number of activities.
Sociology Club members plan their own activities based on the interests of the active
members and in response to community needs and requests. The Sociology Club is always looking
for interested members. So if you want to serve the university and community, the Sociology
Club provides a forum that allows interested students the opportunity to work closely with
faculty and students who share a similar interest in both sociology and
service to the larger
community.
