A Transition Support tool from Augusta State University Academic Advisement
Fall 2008 Midterm is Thursday October 9 and is the last day you can withdraw from a class without grade penalty. Take these steps to check your progress:
Be aware of your standing in each of your
courses. You should keep a record of your scores on
quizzes, tests and assignments. Check each course syllabus
for information on how each instructor uses scores
to calculate grades. If you are not sure, feel free to
discuss this with your instructor.
Where are you in the completion of term assignments?
If your instructor has given you a time-line, be sure
you are staying on schedule. Do not wait until the
last minute to catch-up - you will discover that this
is usually impossible. If necessary, schedule extra
time now to devote to any outside projects.
Talk to your instructor about your progress
and, if needed, the possibility of extra credit or tutoring.
You may be able to successfully complete a
challenging course with assistance.
For example: FREE Math and Writing Help Labs are
available through the departments; FREE seminars and individual
counseling sessions are offered through the Counseling Center
(call 706-737-1471 for details).
Make an appointment with an advisor
in your advising department to review your concerns
about your progress. You should consider how continuing
or withdrawing from the course would affect your
degree plan.
For example: students in the Learning Support program
have strict guidelines concerning their course options which must
be followed; recipients of financial aid may have minimum course
hour requirements to remain eligible for their aid; students with
CPC deficiencies have to satisfy these within a specific time frame;
some courses are only offered certain semesters - dropping could put you
out of sequence.
If you determine that dropping a course is your
best option, then you must initiate and complete
withdrawal on or before midterm to withdraw without penalty.
Withdrawal forms, available in Student Records
(Payne Hall), must be signed by the course instructor.
Take advantage of the wide range of
FREE cocurricular programs and services available
to support your academic goals.
